2024 RB Ty Clark commits

Wake Forest running backs coach John Hunter has been communicating with Clark for a while now, so it wasn't a surprise he jumped on the recent offer extended by the Demon Deacons.

The three-star visited for a game back in October for Wake Forest's 21-17 win over Pitt, so he was more than family with the coaches, program, campus, and atmosphere.

"I was looking for a school that has strong academics and athletics," Clark said of his commitment ."I built a relationship with Coach Hunter over the summer and was really impressed with the coaches, the program, and the facilities."

"Coach Hunter is a very loving and welcoming person, but he's also straightforward as well. He's not going to sugarcoat anything to you, but he also makes sure to look after you as well and that's what I like about him."

Clark has an official visit set with Wake Forest the weekend of December 1st.

During his senior season, Clark rushed for 1805 yards on 209 carries with 31 touchdowns. He also had 18 catches for 271 yards and one score.

Football Dave Clawson/Northwestern opening

I'm trying to catch up after the wedding and honeymoon and want to get some thoughts written about this.

I don't think Dave Clawson will leave Wake Forest for Northwestern after this season.

That's the short version; If you want to stop reading here, you've got the gist.

Here's the longer version: I've spent the past couple of years -- mainly after the '21 season and during VT's search -- saying that two schools are in the tier of, "if that job opens, Wake Forest fans should pay a whole lot of attention." Those are Notre Dame and Northwestern.

Private schools, academic-driven, both capable of throwing a boatload of money at Clawson. Because he didn't leave in the wake of the '21 season, I'm operating under the logic that it's a short list of schools that could draw him away from Wake Forest and Northwestern has been one of those schools.

Where my feeling shifts on Northwestern is how the job has come open. Everything I've read about the hazing scandal is grotesque. I'm not here to judge whether it happened, to what extent, etc. -- I'm here to say this is a trainwreck of a situation that no coach with an established reputation is likely to jump at. That means Northwestern will either need to grossly overpay for its next coach, which is hard to do when trying to build a new stadium, or they're going to need find a bargain of a coach -- and that's not going to be Clawson.

Here's the part I haven't seen anybody write: Clawson and Pat Fitzgerald have the same agent. It's Bryan Harlan, who's named in Fitzgerald's statement about fighting his wrongful termination.

So even if Northwestern could overcome some of the financial hurdles, you expect me to believe it'd hire a client from the same agent who's fighting the school's decision to fire the previous coach?

That's what pushes it into a non sequitur.

Football N.C. State-WF | 2 p.m. Saturday

Starting the game thread for this weekend with some weird rumors ...

There was a report at about noon that MJ Morris would be redshirting for the rest of the regular season. He's started N.C. State's last 4 games, in which the Wolfpack is 3-1 with wins over Clemson and Miami in the last two weeks. But the original plan this season was to redshirt him behind Brennan Armstrong, which didn't work because of how ineffective Armstrong was.

The N&O was the first to report it (I think) and has deleted their story. Sparing a lot of details ... I would only trust our Rivals counterpart (Jacey Zemball of Wolfpack Central) and what the N&O does when it comes to the N.C. State beat.

Soooo ... I guess this will be worth tracking today.

Football WF-Duke | 7:30 p.m. Thursday

Getting this thread up a day early because I've got some programming news ...

I had a death in my family and am headed out of town today. I'm fine, it wasn't sudden; but I need to go be with my family for a few days.

There won't be a film review of the FSU game this week. It's on the backburner and relegated to "if I get the time, I'll carve into it some day," but nothing on it anytime soon.

I'll have a My Take on Wake's QB situation (again). That'll be up hopefully in the next hour or two.

I'm hoping to make it back to NC for the game on Thursday night. Just don't know how the timing is going to work out, though.

Baseball -- offseason movement

Going to do my best to track some movement as Wake Forest comes off of its Omaha trip.

Here's what we've got so far:

Outgoing players
Danny Corona
Adam Cecere
Lucas Costello
Gio Cueto
Derek Crum

Incoming players
Seaver King - 3B, Wingate
Cameron Gill - C, Wofford
Mitchell Salvino - OF, Washington & Lee
Will Schomberg - RHP, Davidson
Tate Ballestero - C/OF, St. John's
Austin Hawke - 2B/3B, UNC
Chase Burns - RHP, Tennessee
David Falco Jr. - RHP, Maryland

I've linked up all of the incoming players' bios so you can check out their stats. They like Schomberg as a reliever even though he was a starter for Davidson this season; they like King as Brock Wilken's replacement at third base, though there's some flexibility there between Jack Winnay possibly being at 3rd and Justin Johnson possibly returning at 2nd.
