There was significant injury news across the ACC yesterday, for two teams on Wake's schedule this year and two other Coastal teams:
N.C. State -- linebacker Payton Wilson and safety Cyrus Fagan are out for the year. Wilson is an All-ACC player who led the league in tackles last season; Fagan is a transfer from FSU who earned a starting spot.
Boston College -- quarterback Phil Jurkovec could miss the rest of the season, and kicker Aaron Boumheri will miss the rest of the season. Jurkovec is a Notre Dame transfer who helped ease BC's transition from Steve Addazio's run-oriented offense to Jeff Hafley's aerial assault last season; he's going to be replaced by Dennis Grosel.
Virginia Tech -- tight end James Mitchell will miss the rest of the season. Mitchell is VT's most-versatile offensive weapon and was especially tough for the Deacons to stop in 2019 (though they did a better job against him last year). He was a preseason All-ACC pick.
Miami -- running back Donald Chaney Jr. is out for the season. He was third on the team with 322 yards (along with 3 TDs) last season as a freshman.
