WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest was unable to come up with the big hit, falling to Navy by a 5-2 margin at David F. Couch Ballpark on Saturday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons (1-1) outhit the Midshipmen (1-1) by a 10-6 margin, but Wake Forest went just 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 14 runners on base.
Making his first-career start on the mound, Carter Bach allowed just one run over 5.0 innings. He struck out a pair and gave up one hit and four walks.
The Deacon freshmen led the way at the plate. A day after combining to go 1-for-13, the newcomers went 7-for-13. Bobby Seymour and DJ Poteetpaced the offense with three hits apiece, while Michael Ludowig added a go-ahead, pinch-hit, two-run double in the sixth inning.
Navy tied the game in the seventh on a solo homer by Evan Lowery, and took the lead on a two-run double by Stephen Born in the top of the ninth.
The Deacs stranded two runners on base in each of the final five innings.
Wake Forest closes out the weekend on Sunday with a doubleheader against Gardner-Webb beginning at 2 p.m.
