Deacons baseball wins with a walk-off single

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest utilized strong pitching and a walk-off single by Logan Harvey in the 11th inning to defeat Quinnipiac, 2-1, at David F. Couch Ballpark on Friday evening.

Connor Johnstone, John McCarren and Griffin Roberts combined for 11.0 innings of one-run ball, striking out eight while allowing just seven hits and two walks.

Roberts (1-0) struck out four in his 3.0 innings of work as he earned the first victory of his career. In the start, Johnstone allowed one run on five hits, striking out four over 7.2 innings.

Quinnipiac (4-4) held the Demon Deacons (6-4) scoreless the first seven innings. In the eighth, Jake Mueller singled and came around to score on a Ben Breazeale RBI fielder's choice to even the score at 1-1.

Johnny Aiello and Keegan Maronpot led off the bottom of the 11th with back-to-back walks. After they advanced on a wild pitch, Harvey drilled a hard single through the left side to plate Aiello for the game-winner.

Mueller, Stuart Fairchild and Aiello had two hits apiece for the Deacs.
For the Bobcats, Robbie Hitt started and tossed 3.0 scoreless frames. Chris Enns threw 4.0 innings of one-hit ball in relief. Gregory Egan (0-1) took the loss as he pitched the 11th.

Following their third-straight victory, the Demon Deacons are back in action with a doubleheader on Saturday, taking on Kent State at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., following a contest between Quinnipiac and Radford at 10 a.m.
