WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest completed its first road sweep since 2014 with a 6-1 victory over Boston College at Harrington Village on Saturday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons (17-20, 10-8 ACC) took advantage of a strong start from Colin Peluse and allowed just one run over the weekend, fewest-ever for the program in an ACC series.
Peluse (6-0) tossed 6.0 innings, limiting the Eagles (12-22, 5-13 ACC) to one run on three hits and four walks with six strikeouts.
Tyler Witt pitched 1.2 perfect frames in relief, while Cole McNamee and Jared Shuster added 0.2 scoreless innings apiece to close out the victory.
Chris Lanzilli led the offense by going 3-for-4 with his third double of the weekend, also adding two RBIs and two runs.
Patrick Frick totaled three RBIs while Jake Mueller was 1-for-3 with two walks.
Lanzilli opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second inning to give the Deacs a 1-0 lead.
Frick perfectly executed a safety squeeze in the fifth to double the margin to 2-0.
Boston College had its biggest threats in the fifth and sixth innings. The Eagles put two runners on with one out in the fifth but Peluse got back-to-back groundouts to escape. BC tallied its lone run of the contest on a Jack Cunningham RBI single in the sixth, but a flyout stranded runners on the corners.
Frick brought home Lanzilli on a sac fly in the seventh to push the lead to 3-1. Wake Forest closed out the scoring in the eighth on a Lanzilli RBI single and run-scoring walks by Frick and Mueller.
The last road sweep came at Notre Dame in 2014. The one run allowed bettered the previous mark of three runs allowed against Clemson in 2012. The nine hits allowed were second-fewest, bettered only by allowing six to Virginia Tech in 2013.
