Wake Forest trailed by eight runs after five innings but tied the game with a four-run ninth inning and won it in 11 innings, 11-9.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wake Forest stormed back from an eight-run deficit to defeat UNCG, 11-9, in 11 innings at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Demon Deacons (18-20) trailed the Spartans (26-10) by a 9-1 margin through five innings. Wake Forest responded with one run in the sixth, two in the seventh, one in the eighth and four in the ninth to tie the game at 9-9.

In a full count with two outs in the top of the 11th, Chris Lanzilli delivered a two-run double in the right-center gap to give the Deacs their first lead since the top of the first inning.

Wake Forest got a strong effort from the bullpen to keep the Spartans off the board the final six innings of the game. Jared Shuster (2.0 innings), William Fleming (1.0), Shane Muntz (1.0) Rayne Supple (2.0) and Tyler Witt (1.0) all recorded scoreless outings out of the pen.

Muntz also led the Deacs at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Bobby Seymour went 4-for-7 with an RBI, while Jake Mueller was 3-for-6 with a double, two RBIs and his first home run in the season, which put the Deacs ahead in the first inning.

Patrick Frick added three hits and DJ Poteet chipped in two, while Michael Ludowig became the fourth Deacon all-time to walk five times in a game.

Trailing 9-1 into the sixth, Frick hit a sacrifice fly to score Logan Harvey and cut the margin to 9-2. In the seventh, Muntz doubled down the left-field line and Lanzilli added an RBI fielder's choice to make the score 9-4.

Mueller led off the eighth with a double, advanced to third on a Seymour single and scored on a Muntz sac fly, making the deficit 9-5 heading into the ninth.

Wake Forest started the inning with four-straight singles from Harvey, Poteet, Frick and Mueller to plate the first run before UNCG recorded its first out. Then Seymour and Muntz added RBI singles to make the score 9-8, and Ludowig tied the game with an RBI groundout.

Supple, Wake Forest's closer, entered in the bottom of the ninth and retired all six batters he faced to earn the win and improve to 3-1.

In the 11th, Johnny Aiello led off with a single and advanced on a passed ball with nobody out. Seymour was robbed of a hit on a diving play and then a strikeout was the second out. Ludowig was intentionally walked to set up Lanzilli's heroics.

Witt took the mound in the 11th inning and UNCG loaded the bases on a pair of seeing-eye singles and a walk before Witt forced a flyout to end the game and earn his first-career save.

For UNCG, Andrew Moritz went 4-for-5 with two triples. Caleb Webster, Dillon Stewart and Tripp Shelton added two hits apiece.

The Demon Deacons return home this weekend for a three-game series against No. 14 Clemson on ACC Network Extra.
