Here's the story from Wake Media Relations:
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Wake Forest dropped a doubleheader to No. 10 Virginia by scores of 4-0 and 6-4 at Davenport Field on Friday.
Joey Rodriguez hit his first home run of the year and the Demon Deacons (12-9, 1-4 ACC) received solid pitching efforts from Parker Dunshee, John McCarren and Chris Farish, but the Cavaliers (15-5, 4-1 ACC) were strong on the mound and capitalized on their opportunities to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Wake Forest continued to struggle to get the big hit, finishing the day 4-for-24 with runners on base and 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
Adam Haseley paced the Virginia offense all evening, finishing 7-for-9 with three doubles, two triples and four runs scored.
The final game of the series has been moved up to 11 a.m. Saturday in an effort to avoid incoming inclement weather.
Game One: No. 10 Virginia 4, Wake Forest 0
Dunshee tossed Wake Forest's first complete game since 2014, but Virginia took advantage of its six hits to claim the win.
The Cavaliers led off three innings with doubles, and each time that runner came around to score.
Wake Forest, meanwhile, struggled to get the big hit for the second straight game despite out-hitting the Cavaliers 7-6, finishing just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and 3-for-16 with runners on base.
Dunshee tossed 8.0 innings, striking out three and allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and one walk. Connor Jones improved to 4-0 for UVA, throwing 7.1 shutout innings, striking out nine on six hits and two walks.
Stuart Fairchild (2-for-2, walk) and Ben Breazeale (2-for-4, double) led Wake Forest offensively. Haseley had three of Virginia's six hits, while the Cavaliers also recorded three sac bunts and two sac flies.
The Deacons were shut out for the first time since February, 2014.
Game Two: No. 10 Virginia 6, Wake Forest 4
In a back-and-forth affair, the Cavaliers scored the final two runs of the game to break a 4-4 tie and seal the win.
Down a run heading into the fourth, Nate Mondou singled, advanced to second on an error and came around to score on a pair of wild pitches to even the game at 1-1.
Then, Rodriguez drilled his first longball of the season - the eighth of his career - to bring home Fairchild and give the Deacons a 3-1 lead.
UVA answered with three runs on four hits in the fourth, three of them for extra bases, to retake a 4-3 advantage.
In the sixth, Mondou led off with a triple to the wall and scored on a wild pitch to knot the game at 4-4.
The Cavaliers scored what proved to be the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth. Haseley tripled and scored when a dropped third strike was airmailed into right field on what should have been the third out. UVA added an insurance run in the eighth when Haseley doubled and scored on a Matt Thaiss RBI single.
McCarren allowed an unearned run on one hit with two strikeouts and no walks in 2.0 innings, while Farish struck out three in 1.1 innings without relenting a hit.
