Logan Harvey led the Demon Deacons (11-17, 5-7 ACC) with a 3-for-4 effort including a pair of go-ahead hits before the Tar Heels (18-10, 8-4 ACC) pulled ahead for good.
Bobby Seymour went 2-for-3 with a double and two walks and Johnny Aiello went 2-for-5.
After UNC took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Deacs plated three in the second. Michael Ludowig hit a sac fly, Harvey had an RBI single and Chris Lanzilli added an RBI groundout to make the score 3-1.
Harvey added an RBI single to cap a 10-pitch at-bat in the fourth to make the lead 4-1.
Zack Gahagan hit a three-run homer in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4. The Tar Heels then loaded up the bases with nobody out, but Cole McNamee entered on the mound and struck out the next three batters to keep the score tied.
Aiello put the Deacs back in front with an RBI single in the seventh to make the score 5-4.
UNC loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but Antonio Menendez entered the game and limited the Tar Heels to a sacrifice fly as the score was knotted at 5-5.
In the eighth, Ludowig singled and advanced on a Zach Seal sac bunt to set up an RBI double by Harvey, giving Wake Forest a 6-5 advantage.
But Brandon Martorano hit a solo homer to lead off the eighth and Brandon Riley added a two-run homer later in the inning to push UNC back in front.
Wake Forest is back in action with a pair of midweek games, playing host to Davidson on Tuesday and traveling to Liberty on Wednesday.
