DURHAM, N.C. – Wake Forest junior outfielder Stuart Fairchild was selected to the 55-man Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list by USA Baseball on Wednesday afternoon.

The award recognizes the top amateur baseball player in the country annually and will be presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation on June 29 in Los Angeles.

A two-time All-ACC honoree, Fairchild has been named a Preseason All-American by Baseball America, D1Baseball, Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game.

The Seattle, Washington native has started 113 games in his two years in Winston-Salem. He's a career .319 hitter, also totaling 34 doubles, 10 homers, 88 RBIs and 26 stolen bases.

Last year, Fairchild ranked fifth in the ACC with his 20 doubles. He excelled in ACC action, hitting .342 in 30 games along with a league-high 12 doubles in conference play.

A year ago, then-junior Will Craig was one of 25 to be named a semifinalist for the award as he went onto D1Baseball National Player of the Year honors.

Starting on March 27 and ending April 2, fans will be able to nominate their favorite players for the Golden Spikes Award prior to the reveal of Midseason Watch List on April 12. The semifinalists list will be sent to a voting body consisting of past USA Baseball National Team coaches and press officers, members of the media that follow the amateur game closely, select professional baseball personnel, current USA Baseball staff and the 39 previous winners of the award, representing a group of more than 200 voters.

The ACC is tied for the national lead with 13 representatives on the watch list.
Wake Forest opens the 2017 campaign on Friday in Houston with a doubleheader against Nicholls and Houston.
