Wake Forest is clearly trending in a better direction with the stability and structure Dave Clawson has put in. I still think they will be picked in the bottom half of the league, but from talking with the players and Clawson and people around the program as well over the last few days I expect they could easily end up in one of the top 3 positions in the Atlantic and top four overall in the ACC because the Coastal is still a hot mess.
Clawson is pretty excited about his super seniors and glad they actually got some cap room with some of the kids who left who were not fits, he said that often they have a really hard time if they miss on a kid because they want to finish with that Wake degree.
Sam Hartman is clearly bothered by the way the season ended and told me that has been a big motivator for him.
The vibe was also the secondary after all the hits they took from injuries should be markedly better and that should improve the defense a lot. Ryan Smenda and Luke Masterson are very solid at LB so if they get decent DL play which Cohen has been good at putting together every year at Wake, the defense could be good as well.
Overall I think what happens in game three against FSU and week four at UVA will really shape the season because those are very winnable games.
