Fun morning at McCreary Field House as the Deacs are getting set for their first scrimmage of the spring on Friday. Here's some news and notes:
Thanks!
- Redshirt senior defensive lineman Sheldon Lewinson has returned to the team. He is a little behind from a strength and conditioning perspective, so his presence the rest of spring is still a bit of a question mark, but he has decided to stay with the program and was welcomed back.
- Cam Serigne will miss the rest of spring practice as he battles mono. I got some comments from coach Clawson on this, which will be up a little later this afternoon.
- Scotty Washington was limited today, as he recovers from a concussion last week.
- Freshman quarterback Jamie Newman was back on the practice field today, but is also limited to a non-contact role after having his appendix removed during spring break.
- During kick return drills, the two guys primarily returning were Steven Claude and Tabari Hines. Obviously, we all expect Greg Dortch to have a huge impact on that role when he gets on campus in the fall.
- Saw good pressure on the QB from both Zeek Rodney and Cameron Glenn today, and they both registered sacks against Kendall Hinton during reps.
- Brandon Chubb reportedly ran a 4.5 40 during pro day last week.
- Here are some passing numbers from the three quarterbacks today. These are NOT all-inclusive. I'm sure I missed some reps. These were from a variety of reps, including DB vs. WR drills, 7 on 7 and full 11 on 11. They're interesting, but I wouldn't read TOO much into them.
- John Wolford was 11-for-19 in the passes I tracked, with completions to Jalen Latter (2), Jeremiah Brown, Chucky Wade (2), Devin Pike (2) , Alex Bachman (3), Brandon Chapman and Tabari Hines. The completion to Hines went 50-60 yards in the air, perfectly laid in front on the receiver over two defenders that went for a TD. Thing of beauty. Wolford had one pass tipped at the line.
- Kendall Hinton was 8-for-17 on the passes I tracked, with catches from Latter, Bachman, Hines (3), Jack Freudenthal, Washington and James Sriraman. He also threw two that were called for defensive pass interference.
- Kyle Kearns was 9-for16 on the passes I tracked, with completions to Bachman (2), Brown (3) and Claude (3). He was also victim to a clear drop by Brown and had a ball tipped at the line.
- As you can see from some of the receptions, Alex Bachman is still making huge strides and is become quite the go-to receiver for all these guys. Looks for him to have a huge impact in the fall. Can't say enough about his ability to get open and make catches.
Thanks!
