Statements
Director of Athletics John Currie:
- "In accordance with Wake Forest University, Wake Forest Baptist Health health and the Atlantic Coast Conference Medical Advisory Group health and safety protocols, all student-athletes who are battling an illness must undergo a series of evaluative steps before returning to practice and competition. While this news about Tariq Ingraham and Ian DuBose is extremely disappointing to them, their families and our entire program, it evidences the strength of the protocols in place to keep our student-athletes as safe as possible. I am proud of how Tariq and Ian have handled their setbacks and am thankful for the care provided by Dr. Miles, Greg Collins, and Murphy Grant and the leadership Coach Forbes has exhibited during this difficult stretch.”
Head Coach Steve Forbes:
- "As hard as this is for Tariq, Ian and their families to hear this news, our coaches and their teammates will help them throughout this difficult time. The medical care our student-athletes have received since I arrived on campus is incredible. I am grateful for Dr. Chris Miles and everyone at Wake Forest Baptist Health and within our University community that have provided care for those within our program over the past few weeks. Both Tariq and Ian will continue to be a part of the Demon Deacons basketball family during their recovery process and will continue their coursework this spring.”
Dr. Chris Miles:
- "While this is a difficult time for Tariq and Ian, we absolutely expect they will make full recoveries and feel strongly that it is safe for our men’s basketball program to return to competition. I am appreciative of Coach Steve Forbes and AD John Currie for their support as we will always make decisions that are in the best interests of our student-athletes’ health and safety based on current medical evidence.”
Guard Ian DuBose:
- "First of all, I want to thank God for keeping me in His care. Additionally, I want to say thank you to the Wake Forest medical professionals for all of the care I have received. I also want to thank Coach Forbes, my family, coaches and teammates, and all of the Wake Forest fans for their tremendous support during this time. Due to medical complications, I will be out indefinitely. I will continue to be supportive of my Wake Forest family throughout the season and I am looking forward to getting back on the court, better than ever! Go Deacs!”

- "This is just another challenge that I will overcome in my journey.
