GREENVILLE, N.C. – Wake Forest sophomore Morgan McSweeney was named to the initial watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's Stopper of the Year Award, the association announced Monday afternoon.
In his freshman season, McSweeney finished with a 5-1 record and 3.50 ERA. He struck out 48 batters in 36 innings, and his mark of 12.00 strikeouts per nine innings ranks fourth in program history.
He ended his freshman season with a 3-0 record and 0.75 ERA over his final seven appearances, and didn't allow a run in 3.1 NCAA Tournament innings.
McSweeney is one of seven players from the ACC on the watch list, second-most of any conference.
The award is given annually to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball.
Wake Forest opens the season this weekend, welcoming Georgetown, Navy and Gardner-Webb to David F. Couch Ballpark from Friday-Sunday.
