Jonathan Pryor reached base in all four of his plate appearances to lead the Demon Deacons.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami utlized a strong start from Jeb Bargfeldt in a 5-1 win over No. 24 Wake Forest at Mark Light Field on Saturday night.

The Demon Deacons (20-8, 7-4 ACC) received a 3-for-3 effort and a walk from Jonathan Pryor, but the rest of the team combined for four more hits. Bargfeldt (2-2) allowed just three of those hits over 7.0 shutout innings, striking out 10 and walking just one to earn the win for the Hurricanes (12-15, 5-6 ACC).

Donnie Sellers (3-2) took the tough-luck loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk in 5.0 innings.

Miami got on the board in the fourth inning with an error, walk, bunt single, sacrifice fly and a balk to take a 2-0 lead.

The Hurricanes plated three more in the seventh on a Romy Gonzalez RBI single and Carl Chester two-run double to push the advantage to 5-0.

Once Bargfeldt was pulled after the seventh, the Deacs had better success against the Miami bullpen.

With two outs in the top of the eighth, Pryor singled and Jake Mueller walked, setting up for a Stuart Fairchild RBI single to put Wake Forest on the board.

After Morgan McSweeney struck out all three Hurricanes he faced the next half inning, Johnny Aiello and Bruce Steel had back-to-back one out singles in the ninth before the next two Deacs were retired to end the game.

The rubber game of the series is set for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
