CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- No. 24-ranked Wake Forest took advantage of a gem on the mound in a 2-1 victory over Miami at Mark Light Field on Friday night.

Parker Dunshee tossed 7.0 innings of one-run ball, striking out nine while allowing just six hits and one walk to earn the win and improve to 5-1.

Griffin Roberts picked up his second save, tossing the final 2.0 innings and striking out three while allowing one hit and no walks.

The Demon Deacons (20-7, 7-3 ACC) had just one hit heading into the ninth inning, but that was a two-run single by Keegan Maronpot which proved to be the difference in the game.

In the second, Ben Breazeale and Johnny Aiello walked. After Bruce Steel reached on a fielder's choice, he stole second base and Maronpot blooped a single into center to plate Breazeale and Steel and put the Deacs in front, 2-0.

Miami (11-15, 4-6 ACC) got its only run in the third on an RBI double by James Davison.

Dunshee and Roberts escaped potential trouble in five straight innings from the fourth through eighth. Miami had a leadoff double in the fourth before two strikeouts and a groundout.

In the fifth, the Hurricanes put two on with two outs before an inning-ending flyout. Romy Gonzalez led off the sixth with a single and was sacrificed to second, where he was stranded. The leadoff hitter in the seventh was hit by a pitch and sacrificed to second, but Dunshee fanned the last two batters he faced to escape.

Miami put the tying run on second on a Gonzalez single and stolen base with one away in the eighth, but Roberts avoided any damage with a groundout, HBP and strikeout, before cruising through a 1-2-3 ninth.

Breazeale gave Wake Forest its second hit in the top of the ninth. The Deacs walked six times compared to just one for Miami, including two by Stuart Fairchild.

For Miami, Jesse Lepore was the tough-luck loser, allowing two runs in 6.0 innings while striking out four. Andrew Cabezas struck out five in 2.0 perfect innings out of the pen, and Gonzalez led the Hurricanes offensively with three hits.
