GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest field hockey’s Nicola Pluta was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, as announced by the league office.

The sophomore from Germany delivered the game-winner in overtime to give the Deacs a 2-1 win at No. 3 Syracuse on Saturday. Her goal was just the second that the Orange have allowed all season.

Due to her commitments playing for the U-21 German National Team this summer, Pluta has only played in Wake Forest’s last three games, all of which have been Demon Deacon victories over ranked opponents. Her game-winner Saturday is already her second of the season, as she also scored the game-winner against No. 4 North Carolina on Sept. 8.

Last season’s ACC Freshman of the Year, Pluta was named to this season’s Preseason All-ACC Team. In taking home ACC Player of the Week, Pluta becomes the first Deac to accomplish the feat since Valerie Dahmen won ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29, 2015.

Pluta and the Deacs will be back in action this Friday at 6 p.m. as they travel to play No. 11 Louisville.
