After talking to assistant coach Randolph Childress at Wake Forest basketball media day about his work to help improve Codi Miller-McIntyre's outside shot, somebody in the group asked Childress if he was still the best shooter on the team.

"Absolutely," Childress said abruptly. " I'm just telling you like it is. I look forward to recruiting the kid that I have to pass the torch to. He's going to have to earn it."

He then clarified his statement (a bit) to give credit to some of the current players.

"They're capable shooters, but hell, I'm still the best shooter on the team," Childress said. "I'm not backing off that statement - they know it. I'm not telling you anything they don't know. You know me, Dan (Collins). I back it up."

I asked coach Danny Manning about that during ACC Operation Basketball.

"That's part of it (confidence)," Manning said. "You're not unless you think you are. Yeah - he's one of the better shooters in that gym."

"One of?" I asked Manning.

"One of, that's right," he said. "There's a couple other guys in there that can make shots too."
