Wake Forest junior Griffin Roberts struck out 11 in a one-hit shutout win at Boston College on Friday.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest junior Griffin Roberts was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Roberts was dominant in his outing at Boston College on Friday, tossing 8.0 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out 11.
His effort led the way in a three-game sweep of the Eagles. Wake Forest recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 1997, and its one run allowed in an ACC series was the fewest in program history.
This season, he has a 4-3 record and 2.67 ERA with 90 strikeouts and 22 walks. Opponents are hitting just .193 against him.
Roberts has been extremely consistent since making the move from the bullpen this season. He has pitched at least 6.0 innings with eight-or-more strikeouts in all nine of his starts, allowing more than three runs just once.
He is 10 strikeouts away from becoming the eighth Deacon all-time to fan 100 in a season. Mike Buddie holds the single-season record with 138 strikeouts in 1992.
Roberts previously earned Pitcher of the Week honors on March 5 and March 19.
