DALLAS, TEXAS - Offensive lineman Zach Tom was named to the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List, as announced by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Tuesday.

The Outland Trophy is awarded annually to the top interior offensive lineman in the nation. Tom becomes the second Demon Deacon selected to the preseason list in the last three seasons, joining 2019 selection and current New England Patriot Justin Herron.

In addition to the watch list nod, Tom also reeled in a preseason fourth team All-America selection by Phil Steele as well as third team honor on Pro Football Focus’ Preseason All-ACC list.

A native of Prairieville, La., Tom received his degree in Business Enterprise Management in May. He started all nine games during the 2020 season at left tackle for the Demon Deacons and was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the second year in a row.

He is the ACC's leading returner in pass block efficiency. Tom was responsible for just one sack and 12 total pressures in 370 opportunities last year.

Over the course of his career, Zach Tom has played in 1,902 snaps and has given up just one sack. Additionally, he has graded out at 92% overall and has only been called for three penalties.

Additionally earlier this year, Tom was named one of Wake Forest's four postgraduate scholarship recipients earlier this year, becoming the first football student-athlete to earn the honor since Ryan Javion in 2016.

The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are a part of the annual FWAA All-America Team. The recipient of the 2021 Outland Trophy will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards, live on ESPN in December. The official presentation to the winner will be made at the Outland Trophy Awards Dinner sponsored by Werner Enterprises and produced by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee in Omaha, Neb., on Jan. 12, 2022.
