CONWAY, S.C. – The Wake Forest baseball team earned its first shutout of the season, taking advantage of a quick start in an 11-0 win at Springs Brooks Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Demon Deacons (10-3) snap an eight-game skid against Coastal Carolina (6-6) - ranked 22nd by Perfect Game - beating them for the first time since 2008.

Christian Bartholomew, Griffin Roberts, Chris Farish and Garrett Kelly combined for the six-hit shutout, striking out 10 Chanticleers.

The Deacs jumped out to an early lead in the first, taking advantage of Chanticleer mistakes to plate six runs.

Joey Rodriguez, Kevin Conway and Nate Mondou reached base via walks or hit by pitch, setting up for RBI singles from Will Craig and Ben Breazeale. Stuart Fairchild had an RBI walk and Gavin Sheets added an RBI hit by pitch, then Keegan Maronpot and Johnny Aiello added RBIs on a groundout and error to cap the scoring.
Both teams were then scoreless until the seventh. Rodriguez and Conway led off with walks, then Nate Mondou drilled an RBI double.

After Craig was intentionally walked, Fairchild hit an RBI single, Sheets found the gap for a two-run double, and Maronpot picked up his second RBI groundout to make the score 11-0.

On the mound, Bartholomew earned the win to improve to 3-0. He tossed a career-high 4.0 innings, fanning three while allowing three hits and a walk.

Roberts struck out a pair in 2.0 hitless innings, Farish recorded one strikeout in a scoreless frame, and Garrett Kelly struck out four in the final 2.0 innings.

Mondou was the only Deacon to tally a multi-hit game, also scoring a pair of runs.

Wake Forest and Coastal Carolina play again on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
