WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest Athletics and the American Red Cross will join forces to provide relief to those North Carolina residents affected by Hurricane Florence which hit the state last weekend.
Tabbed as “Deacs Support Down East,” fans at Saturday’s football game at BB&T Field between Wake Forest and Notre Dame will be given the opportunity to participate in a Text-to-Give program. This will allow fans to text the American Red Cross and make a donation that will go towards hurricane relief.
At Wake Forest’s home game with Rice on Saturday, September 29, the Deacons will have a Fill The Truck opportunity. Fans will be encouraged to bring specific items that will go into Wake Forest’s official football equipment truck and will be distributed in New Bern, N.C., the home of Wake Forest IMG radio affiliate WWNB-FM. Fans may donate bottled water, diapers, school supplies including backpacks, pencils, paper and notebooks along with clothing for children and cleaning supplies including toilet paper and paper towels. Wake Forest is coordinating its efforts directly through officials with the City of New Bern.
Wake Forest Athletics has teamed with Fanatics to create a Carolina Strong T-shirt that will be sold on-line through WakeForestShop.com. Fanatics will donate 100 percent of the net proceeds to the American Red Cross to support Hurricane Florence relief efforts.
