WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest clinched another series over a top-15 opponent with a 6-3 victory over No. 10 Duke in the rubber game at David F. Couch Ballpark on Monday night.
The Demon Deacons (14-19, 7-8 ACC) now have series victories over No. 3 Florida State, No. 10 Duke and No. 11 Louisville at David F. Couch Ballpark this season after winning Monday's game, televised nationally on ESPNU.
Wake Forest handed the Blue Devils (27-7, 10-5 ACC) their first conference series loss of the season behind strong pitching from Colin Peluse and Rayne Supple. Peluse (5-0) scattered three runs over 7.0 innings on seven hits and two walks, striking out five. He helped limit Duke to just 2-for-18 with runners on base.
Supple entered in the eighth and tossed 2.0 shutout frames to pick up his fourth save of the campaign. He struck out three batters, allowing just a hit and a walk.
Bobby Seymour went 2-for-3 with his fourth homer of the season, as well as two runs scored and a walk. He hit a two-run shot in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.
After his homer gave the Deacs a 2-1 lead, Duke tied the game on a Jack Labosky RBI single in the third.
Wake Forest pulled ahead for good in the fifth inning. Johnny Aiello walked, Seymour singled and Shane Muntz walked to load the bases. Michael Ludowig beat out an RBI infield single, Chris Lanzilli hit a sacrifice fly to the wall and Logan Harvey added an RBI infield single to put the Deacs up 5-2.
Kenny Taylor cut the margin to 5-3 with a sixth-inning RBI single for Duke, but Wake Forest got that run back in the eighth when Harvey doubled and scored on a DJ Poteet sacrifice fly.
Graeme Stinson, who received the start on about five minutes notice after projected starter Ryan Day was scratched moments before the game, took the loss after allowing four runs in 4.1 innings.
Seymour, Harvey, Poteet and Patrick Frick had two hits apiece to lead the Deacon offense. Jimmy Herron was the lone Blue Devil to have a two-hit effort.
