The Demon Deacons finished off a victory over the 49ers after the game was suspended Tuesday, fueled by a 4-for-4 effort by Logan Harvey with a grand slam and two doubles.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Wake Forest completed Tuesday's suspended game, finishing off a 13-4 victory over Charlotte at Hayes Stadium on Wednesday night.
Logan Harvey posted his first-career four-hit game, finishing 4-for-4 with a grand slam, two doubles and five RBIs. Ben Breazeale added three hits, while Keegan Maronpot and Bruce Steel also homered.
Play restarted on Wednesday with the Demon Deacons (16-6) having two runners on. Both came around to score on a Breazeale RBI single and Johnny Aiello two-run double, followed by a Harvey sacrifice fly, as Wake Forest took a 4-0 third-inning lead.
After the 49ers (13-8) responded with a pair of fourth-inning runs, Maronpot drilled an 0-2 pitch over the left-field wall for a three-run homer, increasing the advantage to 7-2.
In the seventh, Harvey blasted a grand slam, his first homer of the year, and Steel smoked a two-run shot, his fifth of the season. The grand slam was Wake Forest's fifth of the 2017 campaign, as the Deacs pushed their lead to 13-2.
Both starting pitchers received the decision despite only pitching on Tuesday when the game was scoreless. Colin Peluse (2-0) tossed 2.0 hitless innings on Tuesday and earned the win on a staff game. The Deacs' first two third-inning runs reached base against Charlotte starter Matt Horkey (0-3) on Tuesday before the game was suspended.
Stuart Fairchild and Jonathan Pryor added two hits apiece for the Deacs. Carter Bach, John McCarren and Chris Farish tossed scoreless innings in relief, while Drew Loepprich pitched a game-high 3.0 frames.
The game originally began on Tuesday at BB&T Ballpark, home of the Charlotte Knights, but play was suspended due to storms in the top of the third inning in a scoreless game.
Wake Forest returns home this weekend, taking on Georgia Tech in a three-game ACC series Friday-Sunday.
