DJ Poteet drilled a ninth-inning, walk-off homer in game one and a Morgan McSweeney gem helped the Deacs cruise to a game two win.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest earned a doubleheader sweep over No. 3-ranked Florida State at David F. Couch Ballpark on Saturday to claim the series win to open ACC play.

The Demon Deacons (7-9, 2-1 ACC) took advantage of outstanding starts from Colin Peluse and Morgan McSweeney, who combined to throw 14.1 innings and allow just three total runs on seven hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts.

In the opener, DJ Poteet blasted a walk-off, two-run homer to seal a 4-3 win to hand the Seminoles (14-2, 1-2 ACC) their first loss, while a five-run second inning in the nightcap allowed Wake Forest to cruise to a series win.

After not winning a series against the Seminoles since 2002, Wake Forest has taken three-straight series, all of which came while FSU was nationally-ranked and two while the Seminoles were in the top five.

Game 1: Wake Forest 4, Florida State 3

The opener was a back-and-forth affair, with freshman DJ Poteet capping off the thriller with a moonshot over the right-field wall for a walk-off three-run homer.

Wake Forest three times erased deficits, with Poteet's second longball of the season serving as the final blow.

Colin Peluse received a no decision but pitched well enough to win, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks over 8.0 innings, striking out six batters.

FSU scored first in the third inning, with Rafael Bournigal doubling, advancing on a sac bunt and scoring on a groundout.

Johnny Aiello drilled an opposite-field homer in the fourth to knot the score at 1-1.

The Seminoles again used a leadoff double, this time by Drew Mendoza, followed by a sacrifice bunt and groundout to retake a 2-1 lead.

Cole McNamee tied the game at 2-2 in the seventh, hitting a bases-loaded groundout to plate Nick DiPonzio.

An RBI double for Rhett Aplin put the Seminoles ahead, 3-2, in the top of the ninth to set up the heroics from Poteet in the bottom of the inning.

Rayne Supple earned the win to improve to 1-0, while Cobi Johnson took the loss to fall to 0-1. Drew Parrish started for FSU and allowed two runs on four hits and two walks over 6.2 frames with eight strikeouts.

Game 2: Wake Forest 8, Florida State 1

A five-run second inning propelled the Demon Deacons to an 8-1 win over the Seminoles in the nightcap to clinch the series.

Making his first start of the season and just the second of his career, Morgan McSweeney (1-1) earned the victory with 6.1 innings of one-run ball, striking out seven while conceding just three hits and two walks.

Rayne Supple (1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks) and Tyler Witt (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) recorded scoreless outings out of the pen to put the game away for the Deacs.

Patrick Frick went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, while Jake Mueller and Johnny Aiello had two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Aiello put the Deacs on the board with an RBI single which brought home Frick in the first inning before the big second inning.

Eight straight Deacons reached base with one out, starting with back-to-back doubles from Chris Lanzilliand Cole McNamee. After a single by DJ Poteet, Frick hit an RBI single and Christian Long walked.

The inning was capped off by a Mueller two-run single and after starting pitcher Austin Pollock was chased from the game, an Aiello RBI single which made the score 6-0.

Wake Forest added runs on a Shane Muntz RBI double in the fourth and a Long RBI single in the eighth.
