Demon Deacons and Nittany Lions to meet for the first time in 30 years

GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Wake Forest will visit Penn State in the 2019 Big Ten/ACC Challenge as the matchups for this year's event were announced on Thursday (June 6). The Demon Deacons will play the Nittany Lions at the Bryce Jordan Center on December 4 with tip-off time and TV network to be announced later this summer.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to play a very good Penn State team in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge,” said head coach Danny Manning. “This event is a great opportunity for teams in both conferences to play quality competition early in the season. Playing a Big Ten team in the challenge, especially on the road, is always good preparation for the ACC schedule.”

The game will be the third meeting between Wake Forest and Penn State and the first matchup between the teams in the challenge. The teams last met 30 years ago, a 67-63 Nittany Lion victory in the 1989 Fiesta Bowl Classic in Tucson, Ariz. The only other previous meeting was a 84-78 Demon Deacon win in Charlotte during the 1960-61 season.

Wake Forest has a 12-5 all-time record in the challenge, including a 5-3 record on the road. The Demon Deacons have won two of their last three road games in the event, winning at Rutgers in 2015-16 and at Nebraska in 2011-12.

The Demon Deacons are coming off a 11-20 campaign, including 4-14 in the ACC. Penn State went 14-18 last season, including 7-13 in the Big Ten.
