DURHAM, N.C. -- Johnny Aiello went deep twice as Wake Forest earned an 8-4 win over Duke at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Friday night.
Keegan Maronpot also added a home run and Parker Dunshee matched his career-high with 12 strikeouts as the Demon Deacons (14-5, 3-1 ACC) claimed their 13th victory in the last 15 games.
Dunshee (4-1) earned his fourth straight victory on the mound, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks. With his 12 strikeouts, leapfrogged past longtime MLBer Dave Bush (249) and current Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins (250) into sixth in program history with 252 career strikeouts. He also ties Eric Schmitt for seventh all-time with 23 wins.
For Aiello, the multi-homer game is his first since his collegiate debut in February 2016. He followed a Ben Breazeale RBI double in the third inning with a two-run blast to give the Deacs a 3-0 advantage.
The Blue Devils (10-10, 2-2 ACC) got a run back on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, but Jonathan Pryor and Jake Mueller tallied back-to-back RBI singles in the sixth to extend the lead to 5-1.
Aiello and Maronpot each cleared the blue monster in left field for seventh-inning longballs to make the score 7-1. Jack Labosky and Griffin Conine homered in the closing innings to bring the game closer for Duke.
Closer Griffin Roberts entered with a runner on first and nobody out with a four-run lead in the ninth, forcing a popout and back-to-back strikeouts to seal the victory.
Mitch Stallings (1-2) took the loss for Duke, allowing five runs on 10 hits and four walks in 5.1 innings.
For Wake Forest, Pryor, Mueller, Breazeale, Aiello and Maronpot each recorded two hits, while Stuart Fairchild and Bruce Steeleach had a hit and two walks.
