Here's a story on tonight's game from Wake Media Relations:
CLEMSON, S.C. – Wake Forest women’s basketball earned a 55-45 victory Thursday night over Clemson in ACC action at Jervey Gym to extend its ACC winning streak to three games in a row, the longest streak of the Jen Hoover era and the team’s first three-game ACC winning streak since the 2011-12 campaign.
The victory moves Wake Forest to 14-11 on the season and 5-7 in ACC play. Now with 14 wins, the Deacs have eclipsed last year’s overall total of 13. The five ACC wins this season ties the 2012-13 and 2013-14 campaigns for the most in four seasons under Hoover. Clemson dropped to 4-20 on the year and 0-11 in ACC action with the loss.
Clemson opened the contest on an 11-2 run, but Wake Forest responded nicely by putting together a 14-2 run over the final 5:52 of the quarter to take a 16-13 lead to the second quarter. Amber Campbell keyed the run with six points, all on fast-break layups as the Deacs scored 12 of their 16 points in the paint.
The two teams traded field goals to start the second quarter, but a 6-0 run midway through the frame helped the Deacs extend their lead to seven at 24-17 with 4:12 left in the half. Keeping the seven-point lead at 26-19 with 2:21 to go, the Tigers held the Deacs scoreless over the final two-plus minutes while cutting the Wake Forest lead to just three at 26-23 through two quarters.
The Tigers opened the third quarter on a 10-5 run to retake the lead at 33-31, but Milan Quinn broke a scoring drought of more than four minutes for the Deacs with a layup to tie the game. On the ensuing Wake Forest possession, Campbell hit a three-pointer to regain the lead with 2:02 to go. Clemson’s Danielle Edwards knocked down a free throw with 1:49 to go in the quarter, but that was the only point in the final 5:14 of the frame for the Tigers after Victoria Cardaci hit a three from the corner to give Clemson the lead at 33-31.
Wake Forest extended a two-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter to four with a give-and-go down low from Quinn to Ariel Stephenson, but Clemson responded with a 5-0 run to regain the lead at 39-38 with 7:40 to go. Campbell answered the three-ball just 26 seconds later with one of her own from the top of the circle to spur a 5-0 run for the Deacs, but the Tigers again responded with a run to tie things up at 43 with 4:19 to play.
After an empty possession for each team, the Deacs got a clutch three-pointer from Stephenson with 3:15 to play to put Wake Forest up for good at 46-43. Quinn then stepped up with five-straight points on two layups and a free throw to extend the Wake Forest lead to six at 51-45. The Deacs closed out the 10-point win with free throws from Campbell and Ataijah Taylor as Wake Forest held Clemson scoreless over the final 2:46 of the game.

She was a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor in the contest. Stephenson scored in double-digits for the seventh-straight game, finishing with 10 points on 4-of-11. Elisa Penna fell one rebound short of her career high, as she finished with nine boards and six points, all coming at the free throw line.

Sirah Diarra rounded out the Tigers’ double-figure scorers with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Aliya Collier missed a double-double by one point, scoring nine points while pulling down 17 rebounds.
Wake Forest returns to action Sunday, Feb. 14, at home against Duke. The matchup marks the second of the season between the Demon Deacons and Blue Devils. In the first contest on Jan. 7, Duke pulled away with a 34-9 third quarter to take a 95-68 victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Deacs are looking to beat Duke, NC State and North Carolina in the same season for the first time since the 1987-88 season. The 1987-88 campaign marks the only time in program history Wake Forest has topped all three in-state rivals in the same season.
Sunday’s game marks the annual Pink Game for Wake Forest in support of the Kay Yow Foundation and Wake Forest Baptist Health’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. Wake Forest will wear special pink uniforms and limited edition t-shirts will be on sale at LJVM Coliseum. Additionally, anyone wearing pink will get in free and rally towels and Valentine’s Day carnations will be handed out to the first individuals through the gates. Opening tip Sunday afternoon between Wake Forest and Duke is set for 2 p.m.
