Jen Hoover announced that Ellen Hahne of Stockholm, Sweden will join the program

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest head women’s basketball coach Jen Hoover announced Wednesday (Aug. 15) that Ellen Hahne has joined the program for the upcoming 2018-19 season. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Hahne joined the team in Italy at the start of the team’s current international trip.



“We are extremely grateful to add a player of Ellen’s caliber to our Wake Forest family,” said Hoover. Her skill set and athleticism will help us on the perimeter as she can attack the rim or hit the open shot. She brings a wealth of international experience with her Swedish national team that has helped prepare her to play in the best conference in the country - the ACC. We are very proud to welcome Ellen and her family to our Deacon family, Wake Forest University and the Winston-Salem community,” said Hoover.



Hahne has represented the Swedish national team at the U16 and U20 levels. Her U16 squad finished third at the 2015 European Championship in the B Division while the 2018 U20 team finished eighth in the A Division.



Additionally, Hahne was named her school’s most valuable player and was the recipient of the Kent Brodin Award in 2018, presented annually at her school for outstanding academic and athletic achievements. She played under head coach Mikael Johansson at Luleå Basketgymasium.



“Ellen is a smart and very team-loyal player who always puts the team first,” said Johansson. “She has an extremely fast first step and a very good physique, which is evident in her attack and defensive game. She always works hard and is focused, which also applies to her academics.”



Hahne comes from a basketball family, as both her father Fredrik and mother Maria played professionally in Sweden’s top division.



“Ellen is a not only a talented player but also a great student that will make a positive impact in our program both on and off the court. Her passion and determination are evident in all that she does,” added Hoover.



The Demon Deacons won the first game of their international trip, 80-62 over the Rome All-Stars and will remain will remain in Italy until the 2
