WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest struck early and often in a 14-6 victory over Charlotte at David F. Couch Ballpark on Tuesday night.
The Demon Deacons (13-9) scored four runs in the first inning, five in the second and two more in the third to take a commanding 11-0 lead en route to the victory over the 49ers (10-10).
Wake Forest has scored at least 13 runs in three-straight games for the first time since 2008.
"We're certainly not going to score double-digit runs every game," head coach Tom Walter said. "But I do like the way we're swinging the bat, I like the way we're stacking quality at bats together now. We hadn't really done that all year until the last three games, so let's hope that continues."
Leadoff hitter Michael Turconi finished the day 3-for-4 with a walk, double and four runs scored to set the tone at the top of the order. Patrick Frick and Bobby Seymour added two hits apiece while Brendan Tinsman and Cole McNamee delivered home runs.
The Deacs finished with 15 hits and nine walks to keep the bases jammed all night, and hit well in those scenarios. Wake Forest went 12-for-28 (.429) with runners on base and .400 (8-for-20) with runners in scoring position.
On the mound, Ryan Cusick cruised through the first three innings as Wake Forest mounted its lead and earned the victory to improve to 2-1. Over 6.0 innings, he conceded four runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out three.
Antonio Menendez and William Fleming also recorded scoreless outings out of the pen.
Wake Forest jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening inning on a Michael Ludowig RBI and a three-run homer by Tinsman with two outs.

After Dominick Cammarata hit a two-run homer for Charlotte in the fourth, Michael Wein hit an RBI double for his first-career hit in the bottom of the inning to make the score 12-2.
Harris Yett, who went 3-for-4 to lead the 49ers, hit a two-run double in the fifth, but Wake Forest answered again in the bottom of the frame with a McNamee long home run which gave the Deacs a 13-4 advantage.
Tommy Bullock hit an RBI double for Charlotte in the eighth, but Ludowig capped the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
Wake Forest will hit the road for eight-straight games, beginning with a trip to Durham for a three-game series at Duke this weekend on ACC Network Extra.
