Just an overall incredibly tough weekend at Notre Dame for the Deacs. They should have come away with the series win, but errored away the Friday game in the bottom of the 9th.

There's a ton of baseball left, but as I tweeted earlier today the Deacs basically have 18 ACC games left to turn this around, otherwise it's going to be (another) woulda, coulda, shoulda season. Hate to waste away what will likely be the final season for one of the nation's best in Will Craig.

Here's today's story from Wake media relations:

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Wake Forest and Notre Dame split a doubleheader on Sunday, with Wake Forest winning the opener, 15-13, and the Fighting Irish claiming the curfew-shortened nightcap in six innings, 10-2, at Frank Eck Stadium.

Will Craig posted his first-career five-hit game in the opener to lead the Demon Deacons (18-12, 5-7 ACC) offensively. Notre Dame (15-11, 6-6 ACC) drew 14 walks and recorded 27 hits in 15 total innings.

The first game started half an hour late due to snow on the field. The second game was shortened due to curfew, an ACC rule to ensure teams make their commercial flights home.

Wake Forest continues its eight-game road swing on Tuesday, traveling to Davidson for a 6 p.m. contest.

Game 1: Wake Forest 15, Notre Dame 13

Wake Forest won a wild opener, holding off the Fighting Irish in the ninth inning in a 15-13 victory.

The Demon Deacons trailed 7-4 through five innings, but scored 11 straight runs with big innings in the sixth and ninth to seemingly take control.

A four-run sixth and seven-run ninth put the Deacs ahead, 15-7, but Notre Dame plated six runs and got the potential winning run to the plate before Donnie Sellers recorded the final out for the save.

Will Craig finished the game 5-for-6 with two doubles and four RBIs. He also returned to the mound for the first time since tweaking his oblique in mid-March, tossing a perfect eighth inning.

Gavin Sheets went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Jake Mueller had a pair of hits, an RBI and two runs scored in his first collegiate start.

Nate Mondou and Kevin Conway each recorded a two-run single, as well. Stuart Fairchild and Joey Rodriguez each had a hit, two walks, and a stolen base.

John McCarren (2-1) earned the win by tossing 3.0 innings in relief.

Game 2: Notre Dame 10, Wake Forest 2 (6 inn.)

In the nightcap, walks hurt the Demon Deacons from start to finish. The Fighting Irish drew seven in six innings, including three to lead off innings and five that came around to score.

The Irish plated two in the bottom of the first without recording a hit and never looked back, scoring the first five runs of the contest.

Kevin Conway went 2-for-2 with an RBI and stolen base, while Stuart Fairchild was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. Will Craig saw his 14-game hitting streak come to an end in the shortened contest.

Notre Dame's Peter Solomon was credited with a complete game, striking out eight over 6.0 innings.
