WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball program has signed incoming freshman Matthew Marsh to its 2021 recruiting class.

"Matthew is a talented big man with outstanding offensive skills and is a very good all-around player," head coach Steve Forbes said. "Matthew is 6-11 and has the size and strength to be an outstanding rim protector and team defender in our league. Along with Carter Whitt, Lucas Taylor, Cameron Hildreth and Robert McCray, this is an outstanding freshman class for Wake Forest that will make a huge impact on and off the floor during their time in Winston-Salem. Our staff is extremely excited that Matthew and his family have decided to be a part of our Demon Deacon family."

Marsh spent the 2020-21 season playing for ASVEL's youth squad in the French Pro-A/Jeep Elite league, where he played in 14 contests and averaged 7.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per game. A native of England, Marsh has spent time in FC Barcelona's development program which is one of the premier franchises in the world.

After playing for the Reading Rockets in England's Junior National Basketball League at the age of 15, Marsh made Great Britain’s U-16 National Team and led the squad in points (12.5) and rebounds (9.3) per game. He recorded his best game against Sweden when he had 18 points and 14 rebounds in 30 minutes of action.

Following his stint with the national team, Marsh moved from England to Spain where played with FC Barcelona’s U-18 youth development team. He became the first British player to ever play for the spanish club, where the team were two-time Catalonian Champions.

At the age of 18 Marsh then traveled from Spain to France to play for ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne, which is Tony Parker's youth development program. During his time with the U-21 team, they won the French Championship and he was named the third-best player in the league.
