Devin Thomas Named Lute Olson Award National Player of the Week

Senior forward had a pair of 20-and-10 games last week

BOSTON –
Wake Forest senior forward Devin Thomas was named the Lute Olson Award National Player of the Week after leading the Demon Deacons to a pair of victories last week. Thomas had back-to-back 20-and-10 games as the Deacons defeated Rutgers and Arkansas.

Thomas posted season highs of 23 points and 17 rebounds in Wake Forest’s 69-68 victory at Rutgers in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge last Monday. He followed that game with a 20-point, 12-rebound performance in the Deacons’ 88-85 win over Arkansas four days later. Thomas is the first Demon Deacon to have consecutive games of at least 20 points and 10 rebounds since Al-Farouq Aminu in 2009-10.

Thomas leads Wake Forest in scoring at 18.6 points per game and in rebounding at 11.4 per game, ranking 11th nationally in the latter category. His five double-doubles this season ranks in the top 10 nationally.

The Lute Olson Award, presented by CollegeInsider.com, is presented to a Division I player who has played at least two seasons at his current institution. The award is named after the Hall of Fame coach who led Arizona to a NCAA Championship in 1997.

The Demon Deacons (6-2) return to action on Dec. 15 when they host UNC Greensboro.
