Have a bit of scoop for next basketball season:
Wake Forest is one of three teams that's already got a spot at the ESPN Events Invitational. It's an 8-team tournament that had games on Thanksgiving, Black Friday and this past Sunday. It's played at the State Farm Field House in Kissimmee, Fla. FAU won this year's tournament, beating Butler and Texas A&M in high-scoring games and then throttling Virginia Tech in the championship game.
The other two confirmed teams have interesting WF ties: Wichita State, where Steve Forbes was an assistant for a couple of seasons, and Florida, which WF obviously just beat. I'd expect the rest of the tournament field will feature a Big East, Big 12 and Big Ten team -- this year's field checked those boxes with Butler, Iowa State and Penn State.
WF is kind of following in the MTE footsteps of Virginia Tech -- Hokies were in Charleston last year and ESPN Events this year; Deacons were in Charleston this year and ESPN Events next year.
