WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest senior running back Matt Colburn II has been named to the preseason Doak Walker Award Watch List. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum which sponsors the award. Colburn is one of just nine ACC running backs named to the watch list.

A senior, Colburn led the Demon Deacons in rushing in 2017 with 904 yards and a 5.4 yards per carry average. He posted four 100-yard rushing games as a junior including a career-best 237 yards against Syracuse. Colburn set the Wake Forest bowl game record with 150 rushing yards in a 55-52 win over Texas A&M in the Belk Bowl.

Doak Walker was a running back at SMU who won the 1948 Heisman Trophy. He went on to play six seasons with the Detroit Lions in the NFL. He is a member of Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame. The Doak Walker Award is given annually to the nation’s top college running back.
