WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest head football coach Dave Clawson on Wednesday announced the addition of Chris Jones to the staff as an assistant director of sports performance.

Jones played defensive tackle for Clawson at Bowling Green State University from 2009-12 and was a first team All-Mid-American Conference selection in both 2011 and 2012. As a senior, Jones was third in the nation with 12.5 sacks and was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year.

“Chris Jones is one of the hardest-working players I have had the privilege to coach,” said Clawson. “He was instrumental in helping us build the program at Bowling Green and having his experience in continuing to build the culture of Wake Forest football will be invaluable.”

A sixth-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2013, Jones wound up with the New England Patriots that fall where he recorded six sacks in 11 starts at defensive tackle. Jones started 11 games in 2014 and earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week recognition in Week 7 as he blocked a field goal attempt against the Jets to secure a Patriots victory. The Patriots won Super Bowl XLIX in February 2015 with a 28-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks. After missing the 2015 season with an injury, Jones returned to the NFL and spent the 2016 season with the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers.

“Chris’ time in the NFL with the New England Patriots and being part of a Super Bowl championship will allow him to be a great resource for our current players,” said Clawson. “Chris will be able to share his experiences and provide a great insight into the NFL with our entire team.”

Jones is a certified strength and conditioning coach, having earned that certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Jones and his wife Angela were married on the 50-yard-line at Gillette Stadium. They are the parents of two boys, Maverick and Cavanaugh.
